The ABCs Of Fixing Leaking Faucets
None can be so irritating as a faucet dripping at night. It’s almost like a nudge in your direction telling you that you are wasting your money. This is the reason why you need to have all dripping faucets repaired immediately. You may also do the repairs yourself if you know what to do. Read on to learn how to repair a dripping faucet in your house.
First thing to do is to turn off the water supply to the faucet. Find the valve at the base of the faucet under the sink. You will probably see problems with the faucet washer. Utilize a screw driver to remove the top of the faucet stem. Just in case that you are unable to see any of the screws, try searching for it right near the center of the top under a piece of plastic or metal.
As soon as you have removed the handle you can use a slip joint pliers to remove the valve stem. The direction for removing it is the same direction when you are turning on your water. As soon as you have removed it, make a careful inspection on the valve itself right under the valve stem to detect any signs of deterioration. Using the screwdriver place some penetrating oil, remove the screw holding the washer to the stem. You need to replace it if it becomes deformed by being bent or gouged.
You then need to inspect the valve seat for any signs of damage. If there are deformities or what looks like bite like imprints on the seat of the washer, then the washer on that will need to be replaced as well. You need to look for it at the bottom of the faucet and it can only be removed using an allen wrench. Remember to take good care not to damage the new seat and do not force the placement of the seat on to the faucet.
As soon as the seat is replaced you can already install a new washer on the valve stem. Then replace the stem into the faucet and replace the faucet handle as well. Just refer to these steps when faced with a leaking faucet at home.
