Water is important for many reasons. But many of us take this precious resource for granted. This causes our society to be plagued by water pollution, water shortages, water diseases, and other water problems.

Water is prevalent everywhere. Did you know that it covers approximately 75 percent of the entire Earths surface? Its found in lakes, oceans, rivers and more. Approximately 1.6 percent of all water is found in underground aquifers and only 0.001 percent if found in the air as clouds, water vapor and precipitation. Oceans make up 97 percent of the Earths total water whereas 75 percent of fresh water is found at the polar ice caps. You may be surprised to know that only three percent of all of the Earths water is suitable for drinking.

Even our bodies are mostly made of water. Close to 70 percent of your entire body, in fact. This is even higher for infants, who are comprised of nearly 80 percent water at birth. The average American uses 80 to 100 gallons daily and a healthy individual often consumes nearly three gallons or 48 cups each day. We can survive for up to a month without food but wont survive more than a week without water.

You may be alarmed find that 3.575 million people each year die due to a water-related disease with 43 percent of those being diarrhea alone. And 84 percent of those victims are children. Nearly all of the deaths (98 percent) occur in developing countries. Of all of the hospital beds occupied in the world today, half of them are filled with someone with a water-related illness.

Shockingly, 884 million people or one in eight throughout the world, do not have access to suitable, safe drinking water. This claims the lives of more people than any world war. So do you part and conserve water whenever possible. Are you looking for clean drinking water?
